Work Local homeless program to expand

by

Drive through Downtown Memphis on a given morning, and you’re likely to find dozens of homeless locals lined up, hoping to be chosen for the Hospitality Hub’s Work Local program. If selected, they will have the chance to receive $50 and a meal in exchange for five hours of work cleaning up around the city.

As of now, only 10 percent can be admitted per day for budget reasons. But thanks to a new partnership with the University Neighborhoods Development Corporation, 10 more homeless locals can participate each week.

The program hopes more partnerships – and growth – are in its future.
