Standing sentinel on Beale Street since 1876, A. Schwab’s dry goods store is the last original business on the now infamous strip – offering everything from souvenirs (Moon Pie diner mug, anyone?) and house-made condiments (sweet potato butter, with or without honey) to Grandpa’s Indian Corn Soap and harmonicas.
“If you can’t find it at Schwab’s, you’re probably better off without it,” is its motto, one that’s endured since Abraham Schwab expanded his Boots and Shoe Company to meet the evolving needs of city dwellers.
Today, it’s evidence that the legendary locale was built on more than Bluff City’s music history.
