A legacy of song and praise

by Michael Polzella

Memphis has a thriving faith community, and Al Green has become one of its most popular icons. His Full Gospel Tabernacle Church draws large crowds, regardless of their particular religious faith.

Many are attracted to the lively gospel music that emanates from the church every Sunday morning. The preacher started off as a soul musician, recording hits like “Take Me to the River” and “Love and Happiness.”

Now, he uses his gifts to please the Lord, fronting a choir and a large band at the church. Just remember, if you visit Green’s congregation, make sure to wear your Sunday best.
