In February 1952, Sam Phillips launched a record label in Memphis — one whose moniker pays homage to his oodles of optimism (which ultimately panned out).
Sun Record Company began as, “a new day, a new beginning” in cramped digs on Union Avenue before rising to wildly popular musical acclaim in large part due to The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
Phillips found Elvis Presley in 1954. In early July, the pair recorded “That’s All Right” together before the 19 year old gave his notice at The Crown Electric Company and signed his first recording contract with Sun Records.
