Annual theatre conference injects millions into local economy

by The 100 Companies

Playhouse on the Square is always busy during the first weekend in February. Each year, companies from Disney to Carnival Cruises and other major regional theatre houses converge in Memphis for the  28th Annual Unified Professional Theatre Auditions (UPTA), which are held at the theatre annually.

The event allows professional actors, designers, technicians, dancers, and more to audition for over 100 professional producers across the country in their bid for yearly contract work.  UPTA is the 25th-largest convention in Memphis, bringing the city $1 million in revenue each year.

Due to Coronavirus protocols, this year’s audition takes place online.
