A Mid-South police officer is rapping to reach children. Senatobia Police Sergeant Arthur Avant is spitting rhymes and taking them into schools around the region to encourage children to stay drug free.
Avant began making music 15 years ago, after a high school group dared him to rap during a rally. Now, Avant has shared his musical talent with more than 70,000 people.
All of Avant’s catchy hooks are designed to teach children the dangers of drugs and alcohol abuse. Avant is also showing children that police officers don’t have to be feared: they can be their friends.
