Memphis’ first African American-owned donut shop

by The 100 Companies

Memphis just welcomed its first African American-owned donut shop to town. In January, Rueal Braden left his job as a sous chef at Nike’s distribution center to open Blue’s City Donuts.

Unlike cooking, baking requires precision, but the former sous chef plans on exercising his creativity with unique flavors like raspberry pop rocks, lemon-head lemon crunch and strawberry cheesecake. Another feature that sets Blue’s City Donuts apart? Other than Krispy Kreme, it’s the only shop in town with a conveyor belt.

The new donut shop can be found in the former Daylight Donuts space, located at 5735 Raleigh Lagrange Road.
