Young Pastor Leads One of Memphis’ Oldest Churches

Only one in 17 leading pastors in the United States is under the age of 40, according to Barna Group’s 2017 State of the Pastors presentation. But the senior pastor at one of Memphis’ oldest churches and the majority of his ministry team fit into that select group.

Nashville native Senior Pastor J. Lawrence Turner leads Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church (The Blvd), which opened its doors nearly a century ago (1921). Turner, now 35, took the helm when he was only 30 years old. Since then, he has successfully expanded the Midtown ministry to include a new East Memphis campus.
