‘Blessing Box’ Provides For Neighbors In Need

by Michael Polzella

What would you do if you learned people in your community were breaking into your place of worship to steal food? Buy more locks … call the police?

Apryl Lumpkins-Marshall and her husband, members of New Direction Christian Church, visited a local hardware store, purchased wood and built a “Blessing Box,” which church members regularly stock with non-perishable food items and toiletries. The unlocked box, filled with provisions for neighbors in need, stands in front of the church.

The outside of the box reads “Take what you need. Leave what you can. Litttle becomes much in the Master’s Hand.”
