Memphis teacher competes in Olympics as Team USA bobsledder

by

Memphis’ own Sable Otey is a Shelby County Schools teacher and the first African-American mom to compete on the U.S. Olympic bobsled team.

She recently traveled to PyeongChang, South Korea, with her Team USA peers for the Winter Olympics.

When she’s not competing to be the best in the world, the Binghampton native is a physical education teacher at Lowrance Elementary School. She credits her principal, Kelvin Meeks, with allowing her to follow her dreams and pass her inspirational story on to her young students.

Check out Otey’s athlete biography on the official Team U.S.A. website.
