Academy Award-winning actress Octavia Spencer offered words of encouragement to patients and caregivers when she spoke at The Methodist Healthcare Cancer Luncheon.

“There’s something about this city,” said Spencer, whose film credits include “Hidden Figures” and “The Help.” “Being from Montgomery, Alabama, I feel like this is the embodiment of the genteel quality of the South and I love it. I love coming here.”

Methodist pays a sizable fee to bring stars to town. During the Q & A session, Octavia announced she was inspired to donate her appearance fee to the University of Tennessee/West Institute for Cancer Research.
