October was Hispanic Heritage Month, and Shelby County Schools celebrated with performances and cultural events at several schools. The festivities culminated at Hickory Ridge Middle School, where more than a dozen vendors showed up to offer their services to the entire community.
Among the vendors was the Newcomers International Center, a high school that aims to help students who are new to the country and haven’t learned English. Treadwell Elementary was also on hand to tout its dual language program, the only one of its kind in west Tennessee.
Students also enjoyed performances featuring traditional music from several Latin countries.
