Principal Takes Command in Education

With a soft voice and nurturing presence, Alton Principal Debra Martin is the perfect fit to lead an elementary school and guide students.

But before, she was in command of soldiers. Once a Drill Sergeant, Martin retired from the U.S. Army as a Master Sergeant. She served her country for over 20 years, but knew her next mission would involve children.

“It was during my job as a recruiter, going to career days in elementary schools and recruiting in high schools, where I fell in love with the children, and knew I wanted to serve them next,” said Martin.
