Inc. magazine looked at several factors, from early-stage funding metrics to job creation, in determining its recent list of the 50 best American cities for starting a business. Memphis made the magazine’s list, coming in at number 47.

The thriving health care and logistics sectors have helped spur job growth in Memphis. Promising developments abound, including a $1 billion commitment by FedEx to modernize its sorting facility. FedEx actually funds startups like Tech901, which helps future IT professionals develop.

Plenty of other cultural factors draw talent into town, including the rich history of Memphis and its thriving music scene.
