SCS Volunteer Dedicated to Improving Children’s Literacy

by Michael Polzella

Educators say that from kindergarten to third grade, children are learning to read, and from third grade on, children are reading to learn.

But many children lag behind in literacy. The good news is that Team Read volunteers like Memphis attorney Jon Campbell are stepping in to help those children catch up with their peers.

One of more than 40 volunteers at Memphis’ Shady Grove Elementary School, Jon heard about the program through a local church and saw it as an opportunity to affect immediate change. This school year, he has committed to helping two students increase their reading proficiency.
