September is Hunger Awareness Month, and local churches have stepped up to make sure no one in the community goes without food.
“The churches throughout this district have raised food and funds, and they’re bringing it in all day to help support our hungry neighbors,” said Estella Mayhue-Greer with Mid-South Food Bank.
The Memphis nonprofit received 2,472 pounds of food and $200 in donations to benefit 400,000 people in the Mid-South, one of the nation’s most food-insecure areas.
The drive was part of the 100th anniversary of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Tennessee.
