The panoply of flags fluttering along a portion of Summer Avenue speak volumes.
Dubbed “Nation’s Highway,” this display of international pride pays homage to the neighborhood’s diversity – as evidenced by flags from Colombia, China, Mexico and Thailand (to name a few).
According to the Summer Avenue Merchants Association, business owners on a three-mile stretch of commercial corridor between Highland and White Station come from more than 30 different countries. Together, they have worked to remove blight, reduce crime and make Summer Avenue a destination for shopping and dining.
Their mission remains to be officially designated the city’s first international district.
