This week, America celebrated the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The late civil rights leader would have been 90 years old.
Between his support of striking sanitation workers and his tragic death at the Lorraine Motel, King’s legacy is forever tied to Memphis. The city honors him in many ways.
Permanent exhibits at the National Civil Rights Museum cover the student sit-ins of the 1960s and the Freedom Riders – movements King supported. Elsewhere, the I Am A Man sculpture was unveiled in April of last year.
Memphis will never forget King and his fight for racial justice.
