Summertime and the livin’ is easy – albeit hot. While denizens of Memphis know the mighty Mississippi River is too swift for swimming, a short drive promises refreshing relief from the heat.
A portion of the spring-fed Wolf River, within Shelby Farms Park (and wending parallel to trails there), is a welcome haven for swimmers.
Fun fact: since the “beach” is actually a sandbar, check the water levels before heading out. At the risk of sounding like Goldilocks, 4.5 feet is just right for splashing in the water and making castles in the sand. Any higher? It’s a (natural) disappearing act.
