How to choose the nonprofit that’s right for you

by Michael Polzella

With end-of-year giving near the top of everyone’s list, it can be difficult to determine which organizations to serve. From shelters to schools, there are so many people doing amazing work. Here are some questions to guide your personal giving this year:

• What are you most passionate about? Animal welfare, children, hunger? Start by narrowing down the sphere.

• Where is the service most important for you? Locally? Nationally? Deciding on location can help your search even more.

• What’s the impact? Research the results of each nonprofit organization so you know it will put your money to good use.
