Students ‘Slime’ District Leaders for a Great Cause

by Michael Polzella

Trading in suits for slime, Shelby County Schools Superintendent Dorsey Hopson and Idlewild Elementary Principal Randy Thompson were “slimed” by students in a fundraiser that raised more than $9,000 for the American Heart Association.

The two wore goggles and sat in baby pools as students took turns dumping cups of green-dyed applesauce on them. Students raising $50 or more for ‘Jump Rope for Heart’ got a chance to slime Principal Thompson. The class raising the most money doused Superintendent Hopson in green goo.

“I’m just so proud they got together to do something for someone else,” Hopson said.
