Last year saw a flood of shared mobility operators bringing electric scooters and bicycles to Memphis. In June, Bird scooters made hundreds of shared electric scooters available throughout the city, just weeks after the introduction of Explore Bike Share.
Lime soon followed suit by bringing over 100 dockless scooters to Memphis. Now, city officials are opening the floodgates even further.
In fact, officials want about 1,200 more scooters and bikes on local streets. A competitive application process for mobility operators ends this month. When it’s all said and done, the number of rentable devices in Memphis will nearly double.
