St. Jude scientists guide local students through project

by

Fifth-grade students at Lewisburg Elementary School in Olive Branch, Mississippi, teamed up with scientists from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for their first science class dissection, which teacher Holly Engberg said was made possible through a $500 grant.

A St. Jude scientist, along with a cardiologist and a wildlife biologist, guided students through the dissection process.

St. Jude staff members said interacting with students who are just getting started in the field offered them a unique experience. Teachers said they’re already seeing how the hands-on experience with the experts is impacting students’ understanding of and enthusiasm for science.
