Mid-South Fairgrounds project moves forward

by

The Mid-South Fairgrounds redevelopment project – which has been in progress for over a decade – just took a big step toward completion with the state’s approval of a Tourism Development Zone.

Thanks to the TDZ approval, plans for the project will include a new, 185,000-square-foot indoor sports complex, outdoor track and playing field, 285-car garage, rehabilitation of the Creative Arts Building, and improvements to the Pipkin Building and Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.

In addition to its economic benefits, city leaders believe the TDZ will “bring back civic pride” and drive population growth to the city’s core.
