National Civil Rights Museum combines art with activism

by Michael Polzella

All artists who have a way with the spoken word and a passion for social justice should check out the symposium offered by the National Civil Rights Museum on August 17. The Drop the Mic Poetry Slam and Symposium, designed for creatives, teaches young people how to tackle difficult issues through art.

Attendees can enjoy an afternoon of workshops led by prominent artists and constructed around four tracks – activism, youth voice, technique and business.

After the workshops, everyone will get the opportunity to participate in an open mic, where they can put their spoken word skills into practice on stage.
