Beyond the football game, the Southern Heritage Classic is a three-day cultural festival, crowd pleaser and moneymaker for the city of Memphis.
Founder Fred Jones estimates 50,000 fans attend the annual event — now in its 28th year — pumping more than $21 million into the local economy. Of course, the main focus is the tailgate and matchup between Tennessee State University and Jackson State University, but as the theme states, “More than a Game. It’s a Celebration.”
From a Fantasia concert, to a college fair and fashion show, there are options for everyone at the Classic, Sept. 7-9.
