Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day slaves in Texas learned Abraham Lincoln had signed the Emancipation Proclamation more than two years earlier. Here are some upcoming Memphis celebrations:
Juneteenth Urban Music Festival – During this week-long fest, there will be an art-and-wine mixer, job fair, concert and awards. The week concludes June 16-18 with an outdoor festival in Robert R. Church Park.
Douglass Juneteenth Festival and Parade – Celebrate Juneteenth in Douglass Park with live music, vendors, games and food June 16-18. A parade will be held June 16 at noon along the Douglass-Chelsea Corridor.
