Radio host Bev Johnson headed to hall of fame

by

We all know Bev Johnson’s distinctive, husky voice, which has been gracing Memphis’ airwaves for over 40 years. Next year, the broadcasting legend will become the first African-American woman inducted into the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame.

Memphis-born Johnson began her career in Jackson, Mississippi, before returning to her hometown in 1981. She wound up at WDIA where she’s spent over 30 years hosting “The Bev Johnson Show.”

Johnson has received recognition from the National Black Programmers Coalition, National Association of Broadcasters, Billboard Magazine, the Tennessee House of Representatives, Memphis City Council and the US House of Representatives.
