The Orpheum Theatre and its 7 spirits

The original Orpheum Theatre opened in 1890 as the Grand Opera House, burned down in 1923, and reopened in 1928 as the Orpheum we know today – complete with the ghosts of the original building.

Locals say at least seven spirits occupy the theatre, the most famous of them Mary, an 11-year-old who died in an accident outside the Grand Opera House in 1921. Performers and patrons alike have seen Mary quietly enjoying the show from 5C, her favorite seat, and always donned in a white dress. Employees enjoy having Mary around, and appreciate her supporting the arts without scaring folks away.
