SCS Students Partner with Facing History for Art Show

by

Students from Colonial Middle School got a chance to show off their artistic abilities at a gallery show at the Facing History building in downtown Memphis.

The school teamed up with Just City Memphis for the event. The focus of the show was institutional racism. It covered a variety of topics, including Jim Crow laws, the school-to-prison pipeline, negative African-American stereotypes and white flight.

Facing History Executive Director Marti Tippens Murphy said she was blown away by the students’ talent. She said it, “really shows their understanding of history and reflection about issues of equity and justice.”
