First 8 Memphis to administer pre-K funding

Several studies have indicated that the effects of a strong preschool education last well into adulthood. It’s no wonder that so many cities are looking to expand access to pre-kindergarten courses.

Recently, the City of Memphis and Shelby County have helped form a new nonprofit called First 8 Memphis, devoted to administering funds that will help retain and create thousands of pre-K seats. In order to create the pre-K seats, First 8 will seek funding from private sector, as well as local government sources.

The organization’s goal is to eventually have $40 million in recurring yearly revenue.
